It is especially for students who have demonstrated innovation and creativity, who have solved artistic, scientific or technical problems in new or unusual ways. If you have reached a solution to problems within your school, community, or family, you should also consider applying. If you have created a new group, organization, or institution that now serves a vital role to the community or school, you should also consider applying.
For 2013, the Renée B. Fisher Foundation anticipates granting three to six Milton Fisher Scholarships for Innovation and Creativity.  In 2011 and 2012 the Renée B. Fisher Foundation awarded the scholarship to six students. Their creativity and innovation was demonstrated in some of the following ways (1) an original play titled Running Forever that brings viewers attention the suffering of genocide victims, tying the Holocaust with contemporary violence in Darfur (2) the development of a web-based communication system that allows students, teachers, and parents to remain better informed about school events and scheduling – saving thousands of dollars on paper and postage, (3) the development of a screening tool to detect dyslexia and other reading problems in children, (4) a study that shows how humans respond better to robots when the robots are programmed to have a believable emotional response, (5) a research project on the impact of gravity on bacterial cell walls in order to understand why astronauts returning from space have greater vulnerability to infections, and (6) a research project featuring experiments and analysis that quantifies how bacteria’s metabolic rates and chemical reaction rates are affected by temperature change in order to understand the impact of global warming on primitive biological organisms.
The Milton Fisher Scholarship has a deadline is 30 April 2013. Students must submit two letters of recommendation, high school and college transcripts from the past two years, a copy of the college admission letter if applicable, and a copy of parents’ IRS 1040 tax form. Financial need does not impact a student’s chances of winning. However, the amount of the scholarship awarded is based on financial need.
