College Essay Questions

Why the College Admissions Essay?

Many colleges and universities ask students to write answers to essay questions as a part of their
application process. They do this to learn more about potential students.  They want to know what
potential students believe in and what they are passionate about. Answers to essay questions can show a student’s thought process and the level of depth that they put into their thinking.  Colleges and universities actively seek students who are constantly asking how and why and trying their best to solve problems on their own or as a team player in a group.

Preparing to Answer College Essay Questions

College essay questions are not as difficult as they may first appear. When answering them, it’s important to first read through them at least three or four times. The next step is to take a piece of scratch paper and jot down ideas you have about how you want to answer the question. The next step is to put these thoughts into paragraph form and then proofread what you wrote. To be on the safe side, it’s a good idea to have someone else proofread your writing as well.

After you are completely satisfied with your answer to a college essay question, the time has come to type the answer. As long as you put thought into your answer, made connections in your thinking that were apparent through what you wrote, and wrote in a positive tone, you will have a great chance at acceptance. Thoroughly thinking a question through before answering helps in coming up with the best answer possible. It’s always important to remember that there are no right or wrong answers when it comes to essay questions.
