Valparaiso University

Valparaiso University is private Lutheran University located in Valparaiso, Indiana (about an hour east of Chicago).  Several scholarships are available each academic year.  Entering freshmen that demonstrate exceptional academics can consider applying for one of the following scholarships.  Consideration is given to the students’ spiritual, social and extra-curricular involvement as well.  Categories include the Founders Scholarship, which pays full tuition; the Board of Directors Scholarship, which awards $21,500 per year; the Presidential Scholarship, which awards $12,000 to $17,000 per year; and the Honors Award for $8,5000 to $9,500 per year.  For full details check the Valparaiso University website.

Many Lutheran scholarships require an essay and an interview.  Lutheran students looking for a scholarship will want to improve their essay and interview skills.  Since letters of recommendation are also required, make sure your teachers, school principal, and pastor are aware of your accomplishments.  Prepare a resume to highlight your achievements and share it with your teachers, your principal, and your pastor. Often Lutheran scholarships are awarded on the local level, so also check with your local Lutheran church to inquire about scholarships for Lutherans.
